The Shimna Story: In the beginning

This year, we are celebrating our thirtieth anniversary. Back in 1994, when times were very different, a group of courageous and determined parents took it upon themselves to challenge the status quo by setting up an integrated post-primary school in Newcastle.

Shimna started out at Murlough House with sixty students. Three decades later, the vision of our founders has been rewarded with an enrolment of almost 700 students and the construction of a new state-of-the-art school.

Over the past few months, we have reconnected with our founding parents and captured their remarkable stories. These will eventually come together in a film called ‘The Shimna Story’.

Take a look at the trailer. In order of appearance, it features Kevin Lambe ( Principal, 1994-2021 ), Angela Morgan ( Founding Parent and Chair of Governors ), John McCombe ( Founding Parent ), Roisin Behan ( Founding Parent ), Kevin Quinn ( Founding Parent ), John Keane ( Founding Parent ) and Andy Carden ( Founding Parent )
