Careers

From year 8, employability is included in the curriculum for all students within their pastoral period.  Additional programmes are presented through a range of external providers.  Careers week in the Spring term provides a particular focus for year 10 student on career planning and subject choice.

In year 10, students meet the college careers officer, and take part in self-assessment and careers research so that they can select their GCSE subjects with confidence.  Every student has a careers interview with our careers staff in school in order to support students’ career planning.

Careers work in years 11 and 12 culminates in a work shadowing opportunity, and personal interviews with our careers officer in order to select Advanced level courses or other careers opportunities.  Focused input for all year 11 and 12 students is provided during Careers Week in the Spring term, encouraging students to research widely, aim high and consider all their options.  Additional careers focused work is available to students studying UBELT and students in the Prince’s Trust Aspire group.

In sixth form, our students all undertake a personalised careers programme and all take part in work experience. Students visit universities and colleges and take part in interview training ahead of their UCAS applications. Students have opportunities to take part in voluntary work, and the college prefect and intern system.

All our students take part in Careers Week in March, when we host visits from universities and employers to inspire students' choices.  Our Careers Facebook page keeps students up to date with fresh information and ideas.

A wide range of careers self-assessment programmes and research materials is available to students through our college intranet and our website.

We capitalise on the wide range of careers our OldScholars have undertaken, and whenever possible, we invite OldScholars to come in to speak to current students.
