Academic Offer:
The physical Education department delivers PE at three levels across the school:
Key Stage 3: Junior school PE focuses on sport for all and the department offers a wide range of sports activities throughout the year. Each student receives two hours of PE a week and this allows students to learn new sports and improve their overall health and fitness.
GCSE PE: Year 11 & 12 students can choose to study GCSE PE and take their love for sport one step further. This course allows students to develop their physical skills while learning about how the body works, sports role in history and society, the role of sponsorship in sport and much more.
BTEC Sport Studies: Students can continue to study sport as they enter year 13 & 14. Here students progress their leaning from GCSE level on various topics such as Anatomy and Physiology, practical team sports, current issues. Many students go on to study sport at University.
Extra-Curricular:
The physical Education Department offers a wide range of activates for students. We take a ‘sport for all’ approach and invite all students to take part after school and continue their development. The list of sports available is always changing to allow all students to get involved and find a sport they love. Students are advised to check the weekly extra-curricular booklet.
What we do well:
Over the past number of years Shimna teams have continued to see success across a number of sports at local, regional and provincial level.
