Academic offer

Level 3 Subsidiary Diploma in Public Services is a practical, work related course. You learn by completing projects and assignments that are based on realistic workplace situations, activities and demands.

This qualification is a Level 3 course which is equivalent to 1 A-level grade A*-C.

Extra-curricular offer

Successful completion of the course involves getting involved in a number of extra-curricular activities and events.  In the first year of the course you are required to build on your team working skills and your ability to lead a team.  This therefore involves organising events in and outside school such as bun sales, Christmas stalls, school discos and other fundraising activities.  Alternatively this can involve working alongside other departments in the school to assist in the successful organisation of events such as school productions, open day, sports day, and fundraising for Habitat for Humanity.

Completion of the course also involves participation in outdoor and adventurous expeditions.  In previous years this has involved a multi-day canoe expedition through the Fermanagh lakes and a series of 1 day expeditions exploring the Mourne Mountains to develop the skills needed for the multi-day expedition.

What we do well

Providing students with a wide range of memorable experiences is something that we do well.  We provide a variety of different teaching and learning experiences through practical work outside the classroom as well as visits from a range of public service personnel including the PSNI, RNLI, South Down CommunitySearch and Rescue, Army and Council workers.  We give our students the opportunity to learn more about careers in the public services as well as get a taste for the demands of many public services through a challenging fitness class.
