Shimna students set the agenda in BBC news training
Thank you to Gareth, Niamh and Angeline from the BBC for leading a highly informative news-making session with our Year 10 students on Monday. Following up on the initial training session last month, our students were given the opportunity to present their own reports, separating out real and fake news agendas.

Students reach for the skies with aviation careers talk
On Thursday, we were delighted to welcome back former student and pilot Kate Lenny. Kate is now a First Officer with Ryanair and was able to share her experience with Sixth Form students. It was great to see Kate again and we thank her for giving up her time to provide advice to our students on careers in the aviation industry.

Sixth Form students gain places on QUB Senior Academy Programme
Congratulations to Year 13 students Nicole Wilson and Oliver Madison, who have earned places on the prestigious Queen’s University Belfast Senior Academy Programme. Nicole will follow the Anthropology and Archaeology pathway, while Oliver will join the Physics and Mathematics strand. Assistant Vice Principal Joanne Poland said: “We are very proud of Nicole and Oliver. Their hard work has truly paid off, and we wish them every success as they begin this fantastic opportunity.

Welsh university showcase for Sixth Form students
Earlier today, we welcomed Cerys Davies from Aberystwyth University to speak with our Year 13 students about university life in Wales, the UCAS application process, student finance, accommodation options and what studying at Aberystwyth has to offer. Enterprising Year 11 students reach Regional Finals
Congratulations to our Year 11 King's Trust students, who have qualified for the King's Trust Enterprise Challenge Regional Finals. This year has been extremely competitive, well done to all who participated. Our winning team were: Neidas Bumblys, Amy Crawford, William Crory, Grace Stannett and Ruairi Maguire. The students are now planning a Social Enterprise idea for Phase Two of the Challenge which they will present at The King’s Trust Office in Belfast. Our regional finals
