Careers event gives students valuable insights into the world of work

A three-day programme of careers advice, UCAS preparation and sessions on life skills was delivered to Year 13 students last week. The College welcomed 18 speakers from a variety of occupations, including the construction industry, education, hospitality, nursing and medicine, the pharmaceutical sector, architecture, media, finance, social work and the civil service. Our guests included founding Chair of Governors, Angela Morgan, and former students Dr Laura Johnston, Jana Rodgers, Laura Green, Taniesha Clarke, Matthew McAvoy and Daisy Dillon, as well as our very own Melanie Skelcher, Head of Art, and classroom assistants Paul Ferguson and Shirley Annett. Year 11 students also joined the sessions on Thursday morning.

The programme, titled ‘Looking Ahead’, was organised by Assistant Vice-Principal Joanne Poland. She was very happy with the programme and said ‘I was delighted to welcome back many of our past students and so proud to hear how well they are getting on with their careers. I want to thank all our guest speakers who did a fantastic job and inspired many of our students to consider a career in their field.’
