Today marked a historic occasion, with the first competitive school match at our new Donard Park ground, a junior girls’ football match. It was a tremendous debut, with a 6-0 victory over a spirited Blackwater team.
Led by team captain Sophie Mayers, who was dominant in centre midfield, it was a true team effort, with our squad made up of students from Years 8, 9 and 10. Eight of them were drawn from Year 8, which underlines the strength in depth in our ranks. This included Katie Shiells, who grabbed a spectacular first-half hat-trick. In the second half, goals from Sienna Maguire, Sophie Mayers, and Issy Milligan doubled the tally.
Player of the match was Issy Milligan. As well as scoring, Issy laid on four assists in a truly outstanding performance.
This is a great start to the girls’ season and we look forward to exciting challenges that lie ahead.
