This week our enthusiastic Year 9 students spent time outside of the classroom studying Geography. In particular, the methods implemented along our beautiful coastline to safeguard against erosion and flooding.
Bathed in warm sunshine, they eagerly identified a range of effective strategies, including the sturdy sea wall, resilient rock armour (comprised of magnificent granite boulders), and ingenious gabions (clever cages filled with sturdy rocks). Engaging in a hands-on experience, our students sketched each coastal management approach, showcasing their artistic talents.
Furthermore, they critically analysed the advantages and disadvantages of each strategy, developing a deeper understanding of their impact on our precious coastal environment. It was a fantastic day of learning amidst the breathtaking scenery of Newcastle Beach.
