In a busy day of sport, our U14 Boys Rugby team enjoyed a stunning 27-3 victory against Newtownhamilton High School at the Armagh Rugby Club. Dara McGrath scored a hat-trick, with Brady Donaghy, Jamie Murphy and Porter Headley also adding to the tally. Mr Smyth reports, ‘even more pleasing was the exemplary behaviour shown by the boys throughout the game.’
Meanwhile, our Intermediate Girls Netball teams suffered their first defeat of the season, against St. Joseph's GS. St Joseph's were a strong team who used their home advantage with an enthusiastic group of supporters. It was a close match until the third quarter when St. Joseph's fitness and familiarity with a full-sized sports hall gave them an advantage.
Star players for Shimna were Mila Astruc-Kidd who, along with Sophie Mayers, supplied the shooters Helen Barbour, Lucy McGrady and Hope Sherlock with plenty of goal-scoring opportunities. The defence, led by Evie Gorman and Niamh Watson, worked well to limit the excellent St Joseph's shooters. Playing as wing defences Eve McNamara and Mikaela Hanna both made great effort to limit the wing attack's possession. The girls will regroup for their next match against Strathearn GS in the Intermediate Cup.
