Today we had the privilege of welcoming to Shimna the UK German Ambassador, Miguel Berger together with Anne Finger Harris from the German Embassy and Philip Galbraith from the Department of Education.
As the only PASCH school in Northern Ireland, the Ambassador takes a great interest in the work of Shimna in promoting the German language and culture. Year 11 and 12 German students gave the Ambassador a tour in German of our new school. He was hugely impressed, both with the building and location. The students then led a presentation in German in our Assembly Hall about German at Shimna, followed by an inspiring Q&A session with the Ambassador conducted in both German and English.
The students learnt about the role of a senior diplomat and about the importance of learning languages. Shimna is very appreciative of the support it receives form The Goethe Institut and the PASCH network in its role as a member school and all the opportunities that this gives our students.
Thank you to Ms Susay and the MFL Department for organising this wonderful event. It was a great honour for the College to host such a distinguished guest.
Herr Berger’s thank you for the response to last week’s ‘Shout Out for German’ campaign
