The girls enjoyed a very competitive morning of netball at Ballyholland C.C. Shimna played against St. Mark’s and St. Louis in the final League games of the season.

The Shimna Minors playing first, had a decisive victory over St. Louis, winning 17 goals to 9. Unfortunately Zoe Astruc-Kidd, captain and centre in the team, suffered an ankle injury, and had to come off. With some reorganisation, Isabella Mayers, assumed the captain’s and centre roles performing them very well. Connie Beth O’Neill, came on as wing attack and had a very good game, despite being in Year 8. Shooters Amy Baker and Jane McAnallen worked well together in the circle, and their accuracy improved as the game progressed. Defenders, Isabella Sloan and Lana McNerlin were very effective in defence, limiting St. Louis’ goal scoring opportunities. Mia McCord and Keiley Grant ably assisted the goal defenders, playing as wing defenders.

In the Junior game, Shimna were at a disadvantage from the start, as a number of year 10’s were unable to attend the match.

Thanks to the year 8 and 9 players, who substituted, the game was still a competitive experience for all, with St. Mark’s clinching a clear victory, winning 29 /9. Sophie Mayers, Evie Sloan, Katie Mc Cabe and Maci Coulter all played very well in attack. In defence Mollie Smyth, Michelle Makoni, Eliza Lahey, Morgan Burden and Keiley Grant all worked well together to thwart the St. Mark’s attack.

The final game was a much closer encounter with Shimna Minors playing their second match of the day against St. Mark’s.

The final score was 10/6 to St. Mark’s. It was another very competitive game with St. Mark’s being the fresher team and Shimna were missing their captain and very valuable player, Zoe Astruc-Kidd. Our Year 8 and 9 girls made a tremendous effort, playing two games in the one day.
