Politics students participate in Local Democracy Week event

“ On Friday, four of our Politics students - Ana McKee, Kimberly Watson, Danielle Patterson and Jude Watt - from took part today in Newry, Mourne and Down District Council’s Local Democracy Week event. Shimna was one of eleven schools participating, all invited to prepare and present proposed motions to a panel of Councillors.

Our students prepared a motion based around tackling violence against women and girls in the local area and were highly commended by the Council for their presentation. After the event, the Shimna delegation spoke with Councillor Aine Quinn about further opportunities to advocate on this important topic and to help raise awareness for positive change. Well done to all involved.”
