Last week, Ciaran Milligan, our Resilience Lead, took part in a workshop focused on supporting bereaved children and young people in NI schools, hosted by Stranmilis University College.
Ciaran joined professionals and students from across the sector to explore how schools can support young people navigate grief. The programme looked at:
How children and teenagers understand and experience grief at different ages
The emotional and educational impact bereavement can have
Practical steps schools can take to create compassionate, supportive environments
The importance of open, honest conversations when supporting pupils through loss
Ciaran hosted in a dedicated Q&A session, sharing insights into his work at Shimna over the past four years and highlighting the importance of resilience education in supporting every young person.
Working alongside colleagues in the pastoral system at Shimna, the Resilience programme is a key part of cultivating an environment in which every student feels supported, valued and understood - especially when confronted with life’s most challenging experiences.
