Shimna chess champion making the moves

Earlier in the year, we ran a feature on budding chess champion Toby Crothers. Not so budding any more!

Toby has been attending a monthly tournament at Methodist College, Belfast for the past 6 months. He has competed against players in the Under 18 category, even though he is only 15. He recently won the Northern Ireland Under 18 Puzzles Championship, as well as coming runner-up in the Northern Ireland Chess Championship. A fortnight ago, he received his trophies at a special ceremony held at Stormont.
