Shimna Gaels endure wind and rain to reach Ulster final

Mr McCormick writes: "Today our u14 Gaelic team qualified for the final of the Ulster Schools Brother Sharkey cup with a win against St Joseph's Derry in their semi-final tie at MUSA, Cookstown.

Twenty minutes before throw-in, torrential rain and wind started and continued until 10 minutes before the end of the match. The conditions made even simple passes difficult. However, Shimna raced into an early lead and at the end of the first half had a healthy lead of 8 points. Enforced subs due to injury and temperature hampered the boys in the second half but, by the end, Shimna finished up winning by 11 points.

Top scorer on the day was Dara McGrath with 3-4. Our Player of the Match was Darragh Ruddle for a fantastic work ethic up and down the pitch.”

Onwards to the final, which may take place as early as next week. Details to follow.
