The weekend before last, we were delighted to host Jim Doran and a group from Sport Ireland for a coach development course.
Jim writes:
“Sport Ireland Coaching have been very fortunate to have been afforded the use of facilities at Shimna Integrated College for the running of the practical sessions of multi-sport Coach Developer Course No. 41, the first such course to be run in the North of Ireland since 2018.
The course is based at Tollymore Outdoor Centre and has been running over five weekends since February with three of the Sundays also being based at Shimna. A total of fourteen trainee Coach Developers are attending from the sports of Badminton, Boxing, Gymnastics, Ladies Gaelic Football, Olympic Handball, Triathlon and Volleyball. Once qualified, these trainee CDs will be training coaches in their respective sports.
The weekend of April 13th & 14th also saw twelve trainee Coach Developer Assessors from the sports of Badminton, Canoeing, Diving, GAA, Olympic Handball, Motor Sport, Sailing, Special Olympics, Squash and Swimming attending. Once qualified, these Assessors will formally assess trainee CDs, primarily from their own sports, at various stages of the trainee CDs’ training.
All of us from Sport Ireland Coaching have nothing but praise for the facilities and generous co-operation from Shimna - definitely a relationship we are delighted to have developed and look forward to sustaining into the future. I look forward to seeing the new developments at the College reach fruition in due course.”
