Shimna Sea Cadet competes in Tall Ships race

Year 14 student Ciara Cartwright enjoyed a great adventure on the high seas this summer, taking part in the world renowned Tall Ships race. She completed the first leg of the race on TS Royalist, sailing from Le Havre to Dunkirk, finishing second overall out of 47 ships. Her crew was given the best parade award, commended for their team spirit and morale. Over the three days, Ciara and her crewmates grappled with rough conditions and the challenge of racing through the night. Ciara says, ‘it was great fun’.

Deputy Head Girl Ciara has been a Sea Cadet for a number of years. Competing in the Tall Ships race is the culmination of her admirable skill and dedication.
