Shimma student Emily McMullan, who runs for Newcastle & District AC, was recently selected to join the NI Junior Mountain Running Team representing the NI Mountain Running Association.
This year’s event, hosted by Ireland in Wicklow, marked the 24th edition of the championships, drawing 95 athletes from Scotland, Wales, England, Northern Ireland and Ireland and a large crowd of supporters and spectators to enjoy the competition.
As one of the four female U17 team, Emily raced a 5k course consisting of challenging terrain that included steep ascents and fast grassy downhills which tested the endurance and skill of every participant. All athletes demonstrated exceptional dedication, skill and determination, earning pride and praise for their efforts, with many, like Emily participating in their first ever National Event.
The team’s performance promises an exciting future, with the event moving to Wales for 2025. Well done to Emily!
