Shimna student recognised as a Future Star

Congratulations to Year 14 student Maria Cassidy, who has been given a Queen’s Future Stars Award for Rowing. At a special event held at Queen’s University Belfast on Tuesday 15th April, Maria is one of the distinguished group of young athletes from across the region recognised for their exceptional talent and dedication to her sport. Maria rows for both the Dundrum Coastal Rowing Club and Newry Rowing Club and has a distinguished record already, winning a Gold Medal at the Skiffie World Championships in July 2022. She is one of just four recipients selected for the girls’ rowing team in this year’s programme.

We’re incredibly proud of Maria. She has always been a great role model and has been an excellent student leader this year, helping to run charity events.
