Over the summer, the Newcastle Horizons youth team travelled to Annecy in France on a community outreach project as part of their OCN in leadership qualification. 19 Sixth Form students Shimna joined other young leaders from across Northern Ireland on a week-long trip, developing their understanding of different cultures and experience of living abroad.
It proved to be a valuable learning experience and included activities such as paddle boarding and kayaking on Lake Annecy, visiting the Alps and participating in Olympic-style games. They experienced independent living and enjoyed trips to the local city of Annecy.
Head Girl Aurora Milligan writes: “The freedom and independence we gained from the trip gave us a flavour for what life will be like after leaving Shimna.”
