The Skiffie World Championships took place in July off the coast of Stranraer. In total, 78 clubs from across the world took part, with crews from Africa, Australia, Canada, England, Scotland, the Netherlands and the United States. The championships, which took place over a week, proved to be a global celebration of sport and friendship.
We pay tribute to the outstanding Dundrum Coastal Club and are immensely proud that nine Shimna students took part. Every one of our students returned with a gold medal, between them rowing in the U17, U19, U40s and Open Women crews. The Dundrum Club claimed the world championship title, for the fourth time in its history, underlining its status as a truly world class club.
Congratulations to our own world championship rowers: Helen Barbour, Maria Cassidy, Rose McGrady, Lucy McGrady, Anna O'Flaherty, Jamie O'Flaherty, Mya Smyth, Ellen Watson and Niamh Watson.
