The students enjoyed a great day of cross-country racing at St. Malachy’s H.S.
It was a beautiful, sunny, cold day - perfect for running and our students did not disappoint. In the Year 8 girls race, Isabella Mayers had an emphatic victory with Zoe Astruc-Kidd narrowly missing out on a bronze medal. Caoimhe Pagan was the third Shimna girl, in seventh place. Beatrice Olajide, Grace O’Hare and Mia Holdich, also all running in their first cross-country race, finished twelfth, thirteenth and seventeenth. With the Rugby Blitz also on today, there were no Shimna College Year 8 boys.
The Year 9 girls race was won by St. Malachy’s H.S. but Eilis Donnelly finished a very commendable fourth position. Ana Maguire was sixth, Evie Sloan nineth, Aoife Grant tenth and Lara Campbell eleventh. Dara McGrath finished in third place in the Year 9 boys race.
Eve McNamara and Parisa Susay-Quinn came first and second in the Year 10 girls race, with Kate Bradley, Niamh Watson and Abigail Turley securing fourth, fifth and eighth places. The Year 10 boys race was won by Kayden Matthews and Elliot Walker finished second.
Well done to all these runners and hopefully their training will continue for the Down Schools’ Cross-Country Championships in January.
