Step aside, Elton, Shimna has its own rocket man!

Mr McCormick, Head of Science writes: “On Thursday, students from Years 9, 10, 12 and 14 channelled their inner Elton John and became rocket men for the day. We had the pleasure of hosting Dr Dave Cutting from Queen’s University, Belfast along with two of his colleagues, Neil and TJ. Dave is a real-life rocket scientist and gave a presentation to the students about how rocketry works, as well as practical activities in building and firing rockets.

The Year 12 Double Award Scientists witnessed the launch of real rockets fired up to 1000ft in the air. I’m pleased to report all rockets returned to Earth unscathed. Beat that, Elon Musk.
