U18 Boys win Nolan Cup to complete hat-trick of Ulster titles

Congratulations to our U18 Boys Gaelic team who defeated St Patrick’s Academy this afternoon to claim the Nolan Cup. This completes a remarkable clean sweep for the College’s teams, following on from the U14 and U16 titles this season.

Shimna started brightly, racing to a 0-6 to 0-2 lead, with scores from Darragh Russell, Calum Simmons, Shea McLaughlin and Cameron Eakins. However, St Pats fought back to take a half-time lead of 0-8 to 2-4 and the second half started ominously, with one of the Shimna players given a black card.

To their credit, our defence held firm and, with the team fully restored, Cameron Eakins scored a goal to turn the tide. From then on, the traffic was almost entirely one way, with a goal from Conor O’Hare and another one from Cameron, and further points from Calum, Shea and Conor. The game finished with a resounding victory of 3-11 to 2-6.

There were outstanding performances across the pitch, including Matthew Turley, Xavier Rooney and captain Zack Curran in defence. Riagan O’Hare and Eoin McCullagh dominated in midfield, while Shea McLaughlin, Calum Simmons and Cameron Eakins led the line in attack.

With this historic treble, it’s been another great day for sport at Shimna - and the future is bright, with eleven of the U18 squad drawn from the U16s. We also take pride in fielding a truly integrated squad of players.

Finally, thank you to coaches Mr Dagen and Mr Keown for guiding the team to success.
