Year 8 boys add to Shimna’s trophy haul

Mr Dagen writes: “Shimna’s Year 8 Gaelic team went to All Saints GAC, Ballymena for their Ulster School Blitz in full confidence after a great showing previously in the Kevin Smith Tournament. Shimna started well in the group with a win against St. Colm’s, Twinbrook and from that point they never looked back. The group stage finished with further wins over St. Columbanus, Bangor and Sperrin Integrated College B team, to leave Shimna winners of the group.

Up next were the semi-finals, where Shimna faced Drumragh Integrated College. Shimna started well and took a comprehensive lead in the first half and maintained control through to the end. The final was a meeting of the two undefeated teams in the competition, Shimna vs Sperrin Integrated A. This was by far our best performance of the day, with a resounding victory.

It would be invidious to pick from the boys who played best on the day as every player played their part. However, Dara McGrath was voted player of the tournament for Shimna by the team managers.

It caps our incredible season, with four Gaelic titles and six trophies overall in 2024 for our College sports teams.”
