Year 8 Gaelic boys show their mettle against the odds

On Wednesday our Year 8 Gaelic footballers took the short trip down to Bryansford GAC to play Trinity Lecale. The Lecale panel of 30 dwarfed the 13 boys of Shimna, though it was Shimna that started the brighter with Jamie on target at centre half-forward with a sharp point.
What followed was a frenetic end to end game where both sides traded scores, though Trinity seemed to be taking their goals rather than points so they finished 8 points ahead at half time. At half time Trinity had the luxury of bringing on a nearly new panel to play the second half, and to their credit the Shimna boys kept on plugging away and scores from Jamie, Riley, Tiarnan and captain Louis reduced the deficit and made it very uncomfortable for the Lecale lads. The half back line of Darragh, Fionn and Ezra worked tirelessly to tackle and get the ball up the field.
Unfortunately the size of the squads told in the last 10 minutes when fresh players were introduced again by Lecale who went on to score a couple of goals to kill the game off. However, Mr McCormick was extremely pleased with the effort of the boys throughout the whole game. There is great potential in this group of boys and each and every one of them conducted themselves admirably.
Many thanks to Peter from Trinity Lecale for the match and also to Bryansford GAC for the use of their pitch.
