Head of Irish shares his Gaeltacht experiences in new film

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council writes

"Tá an ceathrú físeán den tsraith ‘Dúchas is Dóchas’ ar fáil anois!

Bígí linn agus muid ag cluinstin faoi Robbie Keenan agus a thaithí sa Ghaeltacht agus é ina dhéagóir scoile. Tá Robbie anois ina ceannasaí ar Roinn na Gaeilge i gColáiste Shimna ar an Chaisleán Nua.

Chomh maith le scéal Robbie, cluineann muid amhrán álainn Gaeltachta ó Bhláithín Mhic Cana agus Aisling Uí Ghribín – múinteoirí agus ceoltóirí ó dheisceart Ard Mhacha.

Tá comhghairdeas speisialta tuillte ag Aisling Uí Ghribín a bhain dhá bonn ag Oireachtas na Samhna 2023. An chéad áit in Amhránaíocht na mBan thar 35 agus an dara háit i gComórtas na Lúibíní in éineacht le Barra Ó Muirí.

Bígí ag faire amach i gcóir na scéalta agus amhráin eile a cheiliúrann ár gcultúr agus ár dteanga.

Chun teacht ar an chuid eile den tsraith agus chun ár ábhar físe Gaeilge eile a fheiceáil, tabhair cuairt ar chainéal YouTube na Comhairle anseo:

The fourth video of the series 'Heritage & Hope’ is here!

Join us as we hear from Robbie Keenan and his experiences in the Gaeltacht as a teenager at school. Robbie is now Head of Irish at Shimna Integrated College in Newcastle.

In addition to Robbie's story, we hear a beautiful Gaeltacht song from Bláithín Mhic Cana and Aisling Uí Ghribín - teachers and musicians from south Armagh.

Special congratulations are due to Aisling Uí Ghribín who won two medals at the Oireachtas na Samhna 2023. First place in Women's Singing over 35 and second place in the ‘Lúibíní’ competition together with Barra Ó Muirí.

Stay tuned for a harmony of stories and sounds that celebrate our culture and language.
