Reflecting on Empathy Week 2026

Last week, Empathy Week took place across the College through a variety of activities. It was an opportunity for our students to think, talk and reflect in safe, structured spaces. It came at a timely moment given the recent unsettling events across Northern Ireland, and our students rose to the occasion with maturity and openness.

Across the week

Year 8 & 9 completed the Peace of Mind storytelling programme with the Verbal Arts Centre, strengthening positive relationships, resilience and wellbeing. Thank you to Caoimhe & Karen https://www.theverbal.co/ and Jessica from Open University for thought-provoking and insightful sessions. Students received a certificate of participation and notebook.

Year 10 & 11 took part in a drop‑down session exploring how discrimination can take hold when critical thinking stops, reinforcing empathy, reflection and independent thought. Thank you to Mrs Rodgers for facilitating.

Our Young Ambassadors invited staff and students to ‘Pause to Pledge’, encouraging everyone to reflect on how their actions affect others and to contribute to a culture of kindness and respect.

In classrooms, teachers used our Empathy Day slide deck, Empathy Shorts, and Empathy Resolution bunting to help students explore what it means to step into someone else’s story.

Thank you to every student and member of staff who helped make Empathy Week a meaningful experience for our students.
