Green Space Dark Skies is an exciting creative event happening just beside Shimna on Saturday September 24th. Older students and parents can sign up as Lumenators to become part of a unique gathering on Slieve Donard.
The finale at Slieve Donard is one of four events taking place at the UKs highest mountains – Scafell Pike, Ben Nevis and Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon).
The gathering will be just below the summit of Slieve Donard at the saddle. With the support of a team of mountaineer safety professionals and movement captains, Lumenators will carry a specially designed low impact Geolight, walking in a series of sequences to create patterns in the landscape at dusk and in darkness.

This is a whole day event with up to 500 people expected. Young people age 14 -18 are invited along with a parent or guardian. Sadly due to the event taking part partly in darkness and in mountainous terrain under 14s are not . Everyone must be fit and prepared to climb from Donard Park up to the saddle below the summit of Donard, and back down again, which will take approximately 4 hours.
