Shimna secured their place in the Ulster GAA Corn Cuchulainn Cup final on Wednesday following a dramatic and high-scoring encounter, overcoming St. Patrick’s, Lisburn by 6-13 to 7-04.

From the throw-in, Shimna signalled their intent with a bright and energetic start. Early scores from Dara McGrath, Gerald Smyth, Fionn Brown, and Jamie Magee helped settle the team into the game and Shimna’s sharp attacking play and composure on the ball ensured they gained early control.

Despite Shimna’s strong opening, St. Patrick’s posed a constant threat throughout the first half, particularly through a dangerous full-forward that repeatedly tested the Shimna defence. However, Shimna’s consistency and ability to take their chances proved decisive, allowing them to maintain control and head into the break with a five-point lead.

St. Patrick’s emerged with renewed intensity in the second half and quickly closed the gap, eventually surging ahead to lead by a point within the opening ten minutes of the half. This set the stage for a tense and fiercely contested final period. However, Shimna were not to be denied, a few tactical changes helped to curb St. Patrick’s attacking threat, while strong leadership from Fahlin Murphy McKibben, Oran O’Hare, and Darragh Ruddle inspired their teammates as Shimna dug deep to regain control and push on towards victory.

Their determination and teamwork ultimately saw them over the line, sealing an impressive win and booking their place in the final. This achievement marks a significant milestone for the group, who have now reached their second final in two years, with some players preparing for their sixth final in just three seasons, a testament to their consistency, talent, and dedication.

Shimna will now look ahead to the final, scheduled for next week, where they will face either St. Benedict’s, Randalstown, or St. Colman’s, Ballynahinch. We wish the team every success as they aim to bring another Ulster title back to their trophy cabinet.
