The excitement was palpable as Shimna Integrated College hosted its first annual sports day in three years.
Since 2019, school sporting events and competitions had to be scaled down or completely cancelled because of the covid pandemic.
Now halfway through her GCSE course, Aurora Symington, was in year 8 when she last participated in this much-loved event. “The day was unreal,” says Aurora.
“There was a brilliant turn out and everyone was in such good form,” says Zara De Carvalho, year 11 relay team winner.
Participants enjoyed a range of activities including track, field and team events.
Head of PE, Barry Dagan says, “Sports day is always one of the highlights of the year and it is great to see students being able to come together and socialise again in a competitive and sporting nature.”
