Year 14 students at Shimna have today received their A Level and BTEC examination results. They reflect many exceptional achievements and include a number of College records:
18% of students achieving three or more A*-A grades
37% of grades awarded at A*-A
One in eight of all grades awarded at A*
58% of grades in A Level Mathematics at A*; 56% at A* in A Level Chemistry
63% BTEC Distinctions in Sports Studies; 54% BTEC Distinctions in Health & Social Care
Overall, highest percentage of students achieving A*-C in all subjects
The Principal, Steve Pagan, said:
“On behalf of my staff, I congratulate all of our Year 14 students on making it through two incredibly tough years. Due to the pandemic, this year group missed out on the experience of completing their GCSE studies in the exam room. The students have then had to cope with intermittent disruption to their Sixth Form studies caused by Covid.”
“Today’s results are a vindication of their resilience and perseverance. Equally, they are a tribute to the dedication of Shimna staff who have continued to provide high-quality teaching and pastoral support, both in class and online over the past two years.”
“We take immense pride in our commitment to all-ability education and are delighted to see extremely positive outcomes across 22 subjects, covering both A Level and BTEC qualifications. We place high value on attainment but, of course, the true test of these results is the value that has been added in terms of progress since each student joined Shimna.”
“It is heartening to see that almost all of our students who applied to university have gained their place, especially given the increased competition this year. Our team is now working with a small number of students who just missed their offers to find places in clearing.”
“As well as breaking a number of College records, this year group has been the largest to complete Sixth Form studies in our history. We look forward to building on their success.”
