Who needs Wimbledon anyway?

On Thursday, the inaugural Shimna Tennis Championships took place, with the help of coach Sam Clegg and Tear 12 Student Ambassador, Oliver Corrigan. A big thank you to Newcastle Tennis Club for hosting the event. Conditions were perfect.

Congratulations to the singles winners:

Killian Keown won the KS4, with Joseph Grainger our KS3 champion.

The runners up were Ben Mc Laughlin and Coehan Murphy-Mc Kibben respectively.

In the doubles competition Ryan Magee and Coehan Murphy-Mc Kibben narrowly defeated Joseph Grainger and Ordhán Behan.

Trophies were also awarded to Calvin Kelly and Sarah Smith for their competitive spirit.

All of the students played with enthusiasm and a sense of good sport. Next year we hope to enter teams into the Ulster Schools’ Championships.
