Our newly formed U13 Boys’ team travelled to the Racquets Club in Lisburn to take part in the Ulster Post-Primary Schools Table Tennis Finals. Captained by Reece Maguire, the team of Year 8 and 9 students included Levon Foran, Elijah Lamb, Robbie Mackin, Darragh Scannell and Jonah Williamson.
First up were Royal and Prior, Donegal where wins from Reece, Levon, Robbie and doubles’ victories from partners. Reece and Darragh and Robbie and Jonah, saw Shimna win 5-4. This was followed by a narrow defeat to a strong St Catherine’s team. To their credit, the boys bounced back to win their third game, qualifying for the finals, where they lost out to Grosvenor in the quarters.
The boys did us proud in what was our debut appearance in the Ulster’s. We will come again. Our star performer was our very own NI U14 champion, Reece, who won all his games without dropping a set.
Attention will now turn to the Ulster singles competition in the coming weeks. We also look forward to taking possession of our new sports hall after the half-term break and making good use of our eight new tables.
