Our U14 Girls Gaelic team made the short trip to Bryansford GAC to face off against St. Colman's, Ballynahinch in their Ulster LGFA Championship game. While both teams were guaranteed quarter final places, top spot in the group was at place.
The game started with both schools going back and forth for the first 5 minutes with Evie Sloan and Katie Shiells the scorers for Shimna. Shimna then burst into gear and two quick goals from Robyn Rick gave Shimna a commanding lead. Shimna continued to keep the score board ticking in the first half with Evie Sloan and Izzy Milligan adding points and Eva McCallister keeping St. Colman's out with a commanding performance in nets.
The weather then took a turn, and the rain started to affect the game. St. Colman's adapting better to the weather, started to take control of the game. Shimna however would not give up, but missed chances in front of goal was to be the difference on the day. St. Colman's got themselves level in the game with a minute to go and added a further two points to narrowly win.
The Shimna girls can be proud of their performance and on another day with chances taken they may have come away winners. There were great performances all over the pitch with Eva McCallister, Evie Sloan, Ellie Sloan, Maddy McDonald and Izzy Milligan impressing for Shimna. The girls have a quarter final to look forward to after the Easter holidays.
A big thank you to local club Bryansford GAC for the use of their facilities.
