Mr Dagen writes: “Our U14 Gaelic girls started their season yesterday with a friendly against Lecale Trinity Grammar. From the throw-in, the Shimna girls impressed with Ellie Sloan winning the ball in midfield, a nice pass to Evie Sloan lead Evie in for a goal to give Shimna the best start. For the remainder of the first half, Shimna impressed with Robyn Rick, Teaghan Quinn and Evie Sloan contributing more scores.
The 2nd half saw Lecale come into the game more and they started to play some free flowing football, however Maddy McDonald was exceptional in the full back line and cut out most attacks to set us their way to counter. Izzy Milligan, Teaghan Quinn, Ellie Sloan and, again, Evie Sloan kept the scoreboard ticking over for a Shimna victory.
This was a great team effort from the Shimna girls with Maddy McDonald, Grace O’Hare, Abbie McClure and Evie McCann working tiresly to turn the ball over in defence, Ellie Sloan and Evie Sloan covering the pitch in midfield and Izzy Milligan, Teaghan Quinn and Robyn Rick giving us attacking options. Player of the match was Evie Sloan who worked the whole game in defence and attack and finished the game with an impressive 2–4.
A great start from the girls and preparation in well underway for the their Ulster LGFA blitz in 2 weeks time. Training takes place on Tuesdays after school.”
