We are delighted to announce plans for the world’s fifth Golf Major – the Shimna Masters! It will be played at Kilkeel Golf Club, one of the county’s finest courses, on the morning of Friday 12 June. Transport from school will be arranged but entrants will need to pay a £10 green fee, payable to the club on the day. The tournament is open to boys and girls in Years 8-11. Mr McCormick and Mr McDonnell write: “Fourteen of our Year 11 Chemistry students got the opportunity to go to the Salters Festival of Chemistry at Queen's University, Belfast today. Our students had the opportunity to speak with real chemists and carry out an exciting practical to synthesise their own Aspirin. Following a tour of the School of Chemistry, the students finished with a panel discussion on Chemistry careers. A good day was had by all.

At the end of a productive Staff Development Day, we were treated to an impromptu musical item from Clemencia, just out of a GCSE examination, and Molly. Thank you, girls, for giving up your time to send us into the Bank Holiday break with smiles on our faces.

This month, a Bronze Award cohort of fifty-seven of our Year 10 students successfully completed the final stage of their expedition training. They demonstrated impressive resilience and teamwork throughout. Training took place over two full days. On day one, students spent half the day developing their navigation skills in Donard Forest, confidently exploring routes from the Granite Trail and Quarry to the mast, armed with maps and compasses. They played four matches, winning against Asssumption GS and Lurgan JHS, and losing to Aquinas GS and Ballymena GS. The defence was led admirably by Lana, supported by Mollie, Mia and Alex.
