This morning, our students took part in a fantastic Apple coding session led by Ciara and Maria from The King’s Trust. They kicked things off with an active learning quiz before getting creative by designing their own apps, finding solutions to real-world problems. The session included hands-on activities. It’s safe to say the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience. A huge thank you to Ciara and Maria for such an engaging session!

Last week, our Year 11 Biology students visited Donard Forest to complete a belt transect investigation as part of their preparation for next year’s practical exam. Students explored how plant species change across different habitats while developing their fieldwork, sampling and data collection skills. The beautiful weather made for an even more enjoyable day of outdoor learning.

Well done to Aoife and Danielle on their impressive performances at the All-Ireland Athletics Championships last week. Despite the oppressive heat in Tullamore, both girls posted personal bests in their events. Aoife finished ninth in the Girls Hammer and 1200km walk, while Danielle came eight in the Junior Girls Discus.

We are delighted to announce plans for the world’s fifth Golf Major – the Shimna Masters! It will be played at Kilkeel Golf Club, one of the county’s finest courses, on the morning of Friday 12 June. Transport from school will be arranged but entrants will need to pay a £10 green fee, payable to the club on the day. The tournament is open to boys and girls in Years 8-11. Mr McCormick and Mr McDonnell write: “Fourteen of our Year 11 Chemistry students got the opportunity to go to the Salters Festival of Chemistry at Queen's University, Belfast today. Our students had the opportunity to speak with real chemists and carry out an exciting practical to synthesise their own Aspirin. Following a tour of the School of Chemistry, the students finished with a panel discussion on Chemistry careers. A good day was had by all.
