Shimna girls shine in IFA Girls’ Football Festival
Our girls’ Year 8 and 9 football team did the College proud in the IFA Festival of Football, held in wintry conditions at the Donard Park ground yesterday. They were unbeaten in six games, winning five and drawing one against teams from Kilkeel, St Louis, Newry High and Dromore. U14 Boys Rugby perform with credit on Ulster finals debut
Our U14 Boys performed with great credit in their debut Ulster finals. Winning one, drawing one and losing two matches, they finished third overall. Star performers were Dara McGrath, who demonstrated exceptional running and kicking, as well as Daniel Murray, Porter Headley and Charlie Sneddon for their defensive work. Ollie Rice and Thomas Hyland also deserve credit for playing with boys a year older than themselves, showing great determination and bravery.

Shimna sportsmen achieve great things across the water
Last weekend saw two Shimna students achieve sporting success in both England and Scotland. Year 12 student Jamie O’Flaherty finished second in the Nottingham Holme Open Men’s 5k race, shaving over half a minute off his personal best in a time of 17 minutes 35 seconds. Jamie was also placed first in the U20 category. Meanwhile, Year 8 student Reece Maguire continued his impressive career in table tennis, participating in the West of Scotland Championships as part of the Ulste

Shimna staff member makes history at cross-country championships
Congratulations to teacher Joanne Mills from our Maths Department who, last weekend, competed at the Inter-Counties Championships held in Wollaton Park, Nottingham. Joanne was part of the Northern Ireland & Ulster Senior Ladies squad, finishing as the team’s fifth scorer. The team finished second out of thirty-two - the first time Northern Ireland & Ulster have won a medal in the event. Well done to Joanne and her teammates on this magnificent achievement!

Year 13 student competes in national cross-country championships
Congratulations to Year 13 student Kari Foster, who finished in a commendable thirty-third place at the Senior Girls All-Ireland Cross Country Championships, held in Mallusk Belfast on Saturday. This marks another tremendous achievement for Kari, competing once again at a national level.
